My friends keep asking me "so how's the car business?"
My answer? "There's never been a better time to buy a car!"
I guess everyone knows there are great deals on cars right now, but too many people are going to make the mistake of thinking these deals are only going to get better. The reality is that manufacturers are drastically cutting production...even halting it completely...to allow current inventory to be sold off. As cars get sold, they don't get replaced. Before long, that means you won't be assured of finding the exact model and color you want. The next step will be a shift of "power" from the consumer to the dealer. Once the demand for cars exceeds the supply of cars, prices will go up and special deals will start to disappear. My best guess is we'll start to see this shift by March or April.
Most people need a car, and cars get expensive to own as they get older. People are now driving cars that are older, on average, than at any time in the last 20 years. If you think you're going to need to replace your car within the next 6-12 months, I urge you to do it now while supplies are high, and prices are low.
